DotPark Spring Restoration Party Rousing Success

Richard O'Mara, of Cedar Grove Gardens, led a band of about 30 volunteers in an assault on Knot Weed, catbrier, and a variety of other invasive species in Dorchester Park on Saturday, March 28. In barely four hours, they thinned out a section on the edge of the park extending from the tennis courts to the Richmond Street entrance. In addition to improving the appearance of the park, this preliminary restoration makes the Knot Weed readily accessible as it regrows through the spring and summer. It will then be simple to cut it back again in this and following seasons until it "tires out" and ceases to recur.

The Dorchester Park restoration is being conducted under the leadership of the Dorchester Park Association, with the help of its lead contractor, Bartlett Tree Experts, and the cooperation of Boston Parks and Recreation and the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department.
